Common Questions

A few things you may want to know before you get started

Can Yvonne provide legal services in addition to those services listed?

Yes. Yvonne is licensed to practice all areas of the law in Indiana, however her experience is focused in family law. "Family Law" is an umbrella term describing areas such as filing for divorce, enforcing a divorce decree, and modifying an existing child support or child custody order. Domestic violence can include civil and criminal cases, enforcement of protective orders, and Invasion of Privacy Defense. Child protective services and related issues can include areas of child advocacy, Guardian Ad Litem work, parent’s rights, and grandparent’s rights. Yvonne’s legal services are not limited to family law but this is where her passion lies.

What are Yvonne's qualifications?

Yvonne M. Spillers has been an attorney since November of 2011 and has her own family law practice. Yvonne has been involved in victim’s advocacy and the legal system since 1995. Yvonne is passionate about helping those in need, protecting victims’ rights, and making sure we all have a voice within the confines of the law. Yvonne graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2009. While attending Cooley Law School, Yvonne earned a Family Law, Certificate of Merit, due to receiving the highest score in family law classes. In addition, Yvonne has completed both Family Violence and Child Abuse and Neglect Law course studies. Yvonne attended Indiana-Purdue University of Fort Wayne graduating with a Criminal Justice Bachelor’s degree with Honors and Distinction.

What are Yvonne's passions?

Yvonne is passionate about helping those who fall victim to domestic violence. The honors project Yvonne created while attending Indiana-Purdue University focused on providing education to domestic violence victims. Yvonne’s project was brought to life while working with the Fort Wayne’s Domestic Violence Task Force. DV Information sessions continue to be offered on a weekly basis for victims of domestic violence. The success of the project resulted in a full-time Victims Advocate at the Fort Wayne Police Department. “I am a strong Victim’s Advocate,” says Yvonne “so it is important to make sure I stay on top of the current laws and legal information to help protect my client's rights”. Yvonne served on the Mayors Commissioned Domestic Violence Task Force first as a victim advocate, then as an attorney. She worked as a Victim’s Advocate for the Fort Wayne Police Department before becoming an attorney.
